Rob Thomas' Energy is Amazing!
I am a true fan of Rob Thomas, let me start by saying that. Lorna Dallas was a bonus for me. I truly wish that the appearance order was switched, with CC going on first and RT second. We purchased the RT VIP with the lounge and the seats in the PIT. Very well run. Tables were set up in the adjacent PNC pavilion with a bar (cash only) and there was a spread of food. Various salads, hamburgers, hot dogs, and slaws. There was the red carpet backdrop for photos as well as the RT hologram karaoke. They send it to you right away! Great memory. Rob came out around 7:30pm and played a 15 song set or so. He was on for roughly 1 hour 20 minutes. Not long enough!!!! The setlists for each band can be found on setlist.fm. His stage was amazing with the lighting (better in the dark), the backup singers and band were amazing as well. Engaging with the audience. He plays his hits, some from the new album, some Matchbox. Don't miss this tour! We were in the path of a major storm, so the venue has a pavilion/lawn and an adjacent venue that is a pavilion. The venue announced the concert (after RT's performance) would be delayed 30 minutes until the storm passed and for the lawn patrons to evacuate into the adjacent PNC pavilion. No one cared. Safety first. The venue took every precaution for patrons' safety. Storm hit and it was over an hour delay. Lorna Dallas opened with Round Here around 10:40 and came on. They played their entire set and thanked those for sticking around. Off the stage at 12:10am. I have to say that I have seen these guys back when they were on tour with the Goo Goo Dolls years ago and we ended up leaving after their 3rd song or so. It was awful. I wasn't expecting much since reviews on this tour have been less than nice. I have to say, CC did a great job. Adam was not wasted and was "present" for the songs. Their light show was phenomenal. The only critique that I have is this: They should have played more of the mainstream songs that everyone knows, only 4 didn't really hold the attention of the audience and many left mid-concert. Keep the pace of the song as it was recorded. Many songs dragged out 7 minutes or so and just kept going on and on. Tiring and boring. People come out to dance and get going with the music live. There wasn't the stench of pot during RT, thank God, but the minute the CC's took stage, that's all that was in the air. Too bad. All in all, excellent concert.
